Brad L. Schmugge, CPA

After spending his early years in Ann Arbor (Michigan), LaCrosse (Wisconsin), and Fremont (California), Brad graduated from Marshall High School in Marshall, Minnesota in 1989. Brad then attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa where he was named a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Accounting and French, minors in Economics and International Studies and with a Certificate in International Management Studies in 1993, Brad spent a year as a bookkeeper/administrative assistant for a heating/electrical/air conditioning contractor before he moved to Duluth where he spent six months as a Minnesota state bank examiner before joining Anderson, Kuiti & Asuma as a staff accountant in 1994.

Brad passed the CPA exam in Iowa in 1993 and currently has active licenses in Wisconsin and Minnesota. With the retirement of long-time partner Dennis Asuma and the then-pending retirement of long-time partner David Kuiti (who retired in May 2013 after 50 tax seasons) Brad transitioned to ownership in 2011 and is currently the organization's Treasurer.

Brad has an on-going volunteer position as Treasurer of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church where he also serves as Head Usher and as a member of the choir. He is also the Treasurer of Shepherd's Little Lambs Preschool and a long-time volunteer with the Northshore Inline Marathon, the largest inline marathon in North America. He is a past treasurer and board member of the Aspenwood Condominium Association of Duluth, Inc. and a past board member of a local chapter of Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent Financial).

Outside of volunteer activities, Brad enjoys supporting the performing arts, including supporting the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra with the same season seat for over 21 seasons, traveling on European alumni tours through his alma mater, and living in the Northland.
